Wood Shutter Material Information

We offer our wood shutters in a variety exterior grade materials. Choose from the available materials below.


Pine Pine is one of the most common wood species used in creating shutters. Our pine is Architectural Grade Pine which means it will have no loose knots. Our Pine Shutters are 1" Thick.	Western Red Cedar One of the most durable exterior grade woods, Western Red Cedar is known for it's resistance to the elements. You can stain or paint these shutters for years of use. Our Western Red Cedar Shutters are 1 1/2" Thick.	Cypress Cypress is a great alternative exterior grade lumber. It has a beautiful appearance and can be stained to bring out it's rich detail. Our Cypress Shutters measure roughly 1 1/2" Thick.	Sapele Mahogany Mahogany is one of the best and most beautiful, exterior hardwoods. If you are going to stain your shutters, there is no better choice, than Sapele Mahogany. Our Sapele Mahogany Shutters measure roughly 1 5/8" Thick.

Step 2

Specify the width of your shutter

The shutters are to look as though, if closed, they would cover your entire window. To calculate the correct size, take the width of your window and divide that by 2.

Example: a window width of 36" would best be matched with a 18" wide pair of shutters.

For double windows it is recommended to take the total window width and divide it by 4 to get your shutter width. For triple windows take the window width and divide it by 6 to get your shutter width. If you are unsure of what size shutter would look best we have some width guidelines listed below.

Step 3

Number of Vertical Boards

For our Board-n-Batten Shutters you can select how many vertical boards you would like. For example, this picture has a total of 3 boards.

If the total shutter width was 18" then each board would be 6" wide.

Step 4

Specify the Height of Your Shutter

The shutter height should be the total window height, not including the sill. It should give the appearance that if the shutters were functional that they would cover the opening and/or glass.

Step 5

Specify the Height Fraction of Your Shutter

The height fraction is the balance of the total shutter height. Example: If you require a shutter that is 57 1/2" the height fraction is the 1/2". If you need a shutter that is 57" then select 00" as the height fraction.
