We could always tell there was something wrong with our home. Something was out of proportion. We finally figured out that it was the shutters. At some point in the home's past, a previous owner had removed the original shutters and replaced them with new shutters. The original shutters had been 16" wide each. The replacements were only 14" wide. You could see a paint outline where the old shutters had been painted. The replacement shutters had not aged well and had turned gray and warped. We started looking for new shutters. But home centers only carry 14" wide shutters. So we checked our old friends at Architectural Depot. Found these custom shutters that could be ordered in a variety of widths and an almost limitless set of lengths! Measuring and ordering were quite easy. The shutters arrived fairly quickly, delivered via UPS. I was easily able to move several boxes of them together since they are very light. Removing the old shutters didn't take too long. There were a number of screws that had already fallen off, so I only had to remove a few per shutter. To install the new shutters, I used the provided "Shutter Loks." The Shutter Loks really made the whole process easy. You hold the shutter by the wall (brick in our case) and eyeball where you want to put the first anchor. With brick, you want it to go through the mortar (and not the brick). I then marked a spot on the shutter and drilled through. I held the shutter back up to the brick and made a mark through the shutter to the mortar. I then drilled the mortar using a 1/4" masonry bit about 2" deep. After that, it's just a matter of tapping the Shutter Lok into place. Each shutter needs 4 - 6 Shutter Loks, so the process takes a little time, but if you can hold a drill and use a level, you can install these. The hardest part if getting the first Shutter Lok in place. I had no helper, so I had to depend on one hand to hold the shutter and another to use a marker to mark the spot to drill. But this is where the shutters being lightweight is a HUGE advantage. You can easily hold the shutter with one hand while running the drill or using a pen. Even though the shutters are lightweight, I can tell they are durable, and the glossy black color shines so nicely. Our home looks brand new again!

Very good product overall. Being able to select the exact size shutter so that they're proportionally accurate to my window size makes a tremendous aesthetic difference. My only complaint is that the corners of the shutters are constructed differently for different size shutters. On some, the top cap nicely covers the ends of the side rails. On others, it is held back exposing the ends of the side rails. There does not appear to be any rhyme or reason. When held back, the construction looks cheaper and more slapped together. Once installed, however, it's nearly impossible to tell a difference. It may be something worth looking into for high profile areas (front porches, etc). Perhaps someone from AD can respond to this review and shed some insight on why the different construction types.

I ordered two pair of premium vinyl house shutters to replace ones that were wooden, partially rotten, and eaten by wood peckers. They were outstanding and went up fairly easily, after boring holes in the mortar of my brick house. I would recommend them to anyone wishing such replacements. The shutter I purchased were nice however, when I ordered them I was not given the option over ther phone of what type of top I wanted. So the wrong top was put on the shutters. I contacted the manager... Andrea Milkie for 5 days straight, without a returned call. On the sixth day, when I called again...I got to speak with her instead of her voicemail. She was not willing to fix the problem. She told me I could purchase another pair at a discounted price. She was very rude and I don't believe anyone would call that good customer service to not return my phone calls for 6 days straight!!!!! Very unsatisified with customer service, when the order mistake was not my fault. Andrea kept stating she would put me in touch with person I ordered from. What good would this do when he's the one who gave me her name and said only she could fix the problem? I will never order from this company again!!!!!!!! EXTREMELY RUDE AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I would not recommmend to anyone they order from this company!!!!
